More 'Dores taken in Friday's Draft

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Vanderbilt had a combination of five players off of the 2008 team and eight signees picked on the second day of Major League Baseball’s amateur baseball draft.

Seniors Dominic de la Osa, David Macias, Shea Robin and Alex Feinberg along with junior Nick Christiani all heard their names called today.

Eight signees were also drafted on Day 2 bringing the total to 10 out of the 14 players selected from last fall’s recruiting class.

Including the five selections from yesterday’s first seven rounds, the Commodores had 18 total players (eight current, 10 signees) selected in the draft.

Jason Esposito, the Gatorade State Player of the Year from Amity High in Bethany, Conn., was the first player to get selected on the second day as Kansas City selected him in the seventh round (205).

De la Osa, the Commodores all-time hits, at-bats and doubles leader, was selected in the 11th round by the Minnesota Twins (336 overall), marking the third time he has been drafted in his career.

Macias, a first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection and the Commodores leading hitter this season, was selected in the 19th round by the Chicago Cubs (581 overall). He was the second player off this year’s team to get selected by the National League squad, joining Ryan Flaherty who was selected with the 41st overall pick yesterday.

Robin, a Johnny Bench Award semifinalist, was selected by his hometown team the Houston Astros in the 20th round (No. 602 overall).

A pair of middle Tennessee high school pitchers went next as Franklin’s Navery Moore (Battle Ground Academy) was selected in the 26th round by the Boston Red Sox and Sonny Gray, the Gatorade State Player of the Year out of Smyrna, was picked by the Cubs in the 25th round.

Matt Marquis, an outfielder at Immaculata High and Annandale, N.J., was picked by the Red Sox in the 28th round, while Joe Loftus, a infielder from the Academy of Holy Angels in Savage, Minn., was selected in the 29th round by his hometown Minnesota Twins.

Christiani was selected for the second time in his career, this time by the Cleveland Indians in the 32nd round.

Jack Armstrong, a right-handed pitcher out of Jupiter, Fla., was selected in the 36th round by the Texas Rangers.

Will Clinard, another Tennessee high school pitcher from East Robertson High, was chosen by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 36th round.

Feinberg, a second-team All-SEC selection and first-team Academic All-District honoree, was chosen by Colorado in the 43rd round.

Southpaw pitcher Grayson Garvin out of The Wesleyan School and Suwanee, Ga., rounded out the group as he was selected in the 45th round by the Houston Astros.
