NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt women’s tennis again earned recognition in the conference weekly awards after freshman Trinetra Vijayakumar was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on Wednesday.
Vijayakumar notched her first ranked singles win of the season against No. 1 Georgia on Friday, downing No. 82 Guillermina Grant in a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 comeback at the No. 5 singles position. Versus No. 18 South Carolina, Vijayakumar continued her winning ways with a 7-6 (4), 6-2 defeat of Bella Larsson, helping push the Commodores to a 5-2 road win against the Gamecocks. Vijayakumar now owns 16 total singles victories throughout the fall and spring seasons, and moves to 6-2 at the No. 5 spot for Vanderbilt.
Vijayakumar captures the first conference award of her career. It is now consecutive weeks Vanderbilt has earned Freshman of the Week honors after freshman Sophia Webster was recognized last Wednesday. She joins senior Célia-Belle Mohr, sophomore Valeria Ray and Webster as Dores to be named in a weekly award this season.
No. 13 Vanderbilt approaches the final two matches of its regular season, both of which are at home. The Dores return to play on Friday against Kentucky at 2 p.m ahead of senior day versus No. 9 Tennessee on Sunday.
