An update on Vanderbilt alumni during the 2021 Major League Baseball Season.


August 11 – As the 2021 MLB Season continues, many former Vanderbilt standouts continue to thrive in the big leagues.

Walker Buehler is having an outstanding season for the Los Angeles Dodgers, cementing himself as one of the best pitchers in baseball. Buehler owns a 2.13 ERA on the year, which ranks second in the MLB, while also ranking second in the league in wins with an impressive 12-2 record. He was tabbed the National League Pitcher of the Month for his standout performances across the month of July.

Buehler owns the fourth-lowest WHIP in the MLB with a mark of 0.93, while he has struck out 152 batters on the campaign.

Teammate David Price has done a solid job for Los Angeles, making 29 appearances on the season, including eight starts. Price owns a 4-1 record on the campaign, with 46 punchouts across 51.0 innings of work.

Bryan Reynolds is having a spectacular campaign for the Pittsburgh Pirates. After receiving the first All-Star nod of his career, Reynolds continued his stellar play following the break. He is batting .305 on the season with 19 home runs, while driving in 65 RBI on the campaign.

Reynolds is batting .318 across his last seven games, while slugging an impressive .682 across the span.

Dansby Swanson has shown strong power numbers across this season, as he owns 20 home runs and 59 RBI on the campaign. Swanson’s 20 homers place him fourth among all shortstops in the MLB, and are the most by a Braves’ shortstop since the franchise moved to Atlanta.

The west coast duo of Mike Yastrzemski and Curt Casali have helped the San Francisco Giants to the best record in baseball. The Giants sit atop the National League West standings with a record of 72 and 41, with a 4.0 game cushion for first place.

Yastrzemski has registered 18 home runs and 47 RBI this season, while Casali has connected on five long balls.
