NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt punter Jesse Mirco has been named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the team’s win at Auburn, while also earning a spot on the Ray Guy Award Ray’s 8 for Week 10.
Mirco averaged 52.9 yards on a career-high eight punts as Vanderbilt won for the first time at Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium. The average was the second-best in program history with a minimum of five punts in a game.
The Aussie placed a season-best three punts inside the Tigers’ 20-yard line with two pinning Auburn inside its own five-yard line. Five of his punts went for over 50 yards, while two went 60 yards or longer. Vanderbilt averaged 46.8 net punting yards for the game, which was five yards better than its season mark entering the game.
Mirco now ranks second in the SEC and third in FBS at 47.1 yards per punt.
It marks the seventh weekly SEC award for a Commodore this season and the third such honor for a specialist. Kicker Brock Taylor has earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors twice this year.
Mirco and the Commodores return to action Saturday when South Carolina visits FirstBank Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:15 p.m. on SEC Network and 94.9 The Fan.
