GREENVILLE, S.C. – In the second day of the Furman Fall Classic, the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team claimed one flight championship and will play for a doubles championship as the tournament concludes on Sunday.
Lauren Mira captured the Flight 4 championship after defeating Northwestern’s Gina Suarez-Malaguti, 6-1, 6-1. Chelsea Preeg took second place in Flight 2 after falling in the finals to Florida State’s Noemie Scharle.
In Flight 5, Nelly Radeva took third place with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Maria Belaya of Clemson. In Flight 6 singles, which featured a round robin format, Erica Robertson picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win over Olivia Maurice of Florida.
Doubles play will conclude Sunday morning as Rachael Dillon and Alex Leatu will play in the championship match of Flight 1 and the duo of Preeg and Lauren Mira are set to play in the fifth place match of the same flight. Jackie Wu and Robertson will compete for fifth place of Flight 2.
