PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Vanderbilt’s run in the doubles main draw came to an end today as Lauren Mira and Courtney Colton fell to Bianca Sanon and Kanika Vaidy of Columbia , in the second round of the Riviera/ITA All-Americans.
“It was a tough day today,” said VU assistant coach Aleke Tsoubanos. “Columbia was the better team today. They made the shots they needed to and they were aggressive when they had the chance. We weren’t able to capitalize on the opportunities we had.”
Mira and Colton were the fifth-seeded doubles team in the 24-team tournament. The duo fell to a tough Columbia team, 8-2.
Vandy’s No. 1 doubles team will now play in a consolation draw. Consolations will be re-drawn by the ITA with match ups to be determined at the conclusion of Thursday’s action.
“No matter who we matchup with tomorrow it will be a great opportunity for us,” said Tsoubanos. “At a tournament of this level every team is talented, so we are going to need to regroup tonight and be ready to compete tomorrow morning.”
