Men's Golf: Final Results at Olympia Fields

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – The Vanderbilt men’s golf team finished 10th at the 2006 Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Invitational. Senior Luke List tied for 13th place at 9-over.

The 12-team field played 18 holes Monday on Olympia Field’s historic North Course (par 70, 7,205 yards) after playing two rounds on Sunday.

In the team competition, Duke shot Monday’s low round to overtake day-one leader Stanford by six strokes. Purdue, Northwestern and Oklahoma State rounded out the top five. Individually, Arizona State’s Niklas Lemke shot the low round of the tournament (a 4-under 66) to edge Duke’s Adam Long for medalist honors.

List posted a Top 20 tournament finish for the 29th time in his collegiate career. The Ringgold, Ga., native posted an even par first round and remained near the top of the leaderboard throughout the 54-hole event. He finished at 9-over in a six-way tie for 13th place.

Freshman Hudson Johnson shot an 8-over 78 on Sunday, finishing the tournament in a tie for 33rd place. Sophomore Jon Curran carded a 6-over 76 and placed 45th overall for the event.

The Commodores counted junior Billy Whalen’s third round score, an 11-over 81; while junior Brett Lange posted a 14-over 84.

First-year Head Coach Tom Shaw’s Commodores will take a week off before traveling to South Bend, Ind., to take part in the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic, Oct. 9-10, at the Warren Golf Course. Vanderbilt will close out the fall schedule by playing host to 2006 Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate, Oct. 22-24, at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin.
