MBB Signee Ogilvy Named Player of Month

Vanderbilt men’s basketball signee A.J. Ogilvy was named the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) East Player of the Month for April.

The 6-10, 250-pound center from Canberra attends the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) which competes in the SEABL, Australia’s premier winter basketball league, from March through August.

Ogilvy averaged 29.7 points, 10.7 rebounds and 4.0 blocks while shooting 68 percent from the field and 72.4 percent from the foul line in three games during April.  He tallied 45 points and 16 rebounds while shooting 15-of-23 from the field and 15-of-17 from the foul line in a 125-120 overtime loss to the Nunawading Spectres on April 22. Six days later, Ogilvy posted 26 points on 12-of-14 shooting from the field to go along with seven rebounds leading AIS to a 98-89 victory over the Frankston Blues.

Ogilvy is averaging 17.7 points and 6.2 rebounds while shooting 63.2 percent from the field through nine games this season in the SEABL.

Ogilvy helped lead New South Wales to the Under 20 and Ivor Burge National Championships title in February averaging 17.0 points and 8.7 rebounds in the five-game tournament.

Later this summer, the Australian will represent his country at the Under 19 World Championship in Novi Sad, Serbia in July.

Ogilvy is one of four members of the 2007 Commodore recruiting class who have signed national letters of intent to attend Vanderbilt beginning in the 2007-08 academic year.
