Hannah Martin and Jennifer Mann have signed National Letters of Intent to swim at Vanderbilt, Head Coach Jeremy Organ announced. The pair will enroll at Vanderbilt and swim as freshman in 2012.

Martin, a native of Greensboro, N.C., is ranked No. 83 in the nation by CollegeSwimming.com, as well as third in the state of North Carolina. She swims backstroke and free style, and has earned several honors for her performances both in the pool and the classroom.

She was a qualifier for Senior Nationals in the 200 backstroke, with a top time of 1:57.85 and has earned All-America honors from USA Swimming. She is a three-time North Carolina Swimming All-Star, as well as a three-time selection as the Greensboro Swimming Association’s Most Valuable Swimmer, where she swims for Head Coach Kevin Thornton.

Enrolled at the Early College at Guilford, Martin has been named a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American each year in high school and is a member of the National Honor Society. Martin plans to major in Engineering at Vanderbilt.

“Hannah will have an immediate impact on our program,” said Organ. “She is an example of someone who is a perfect fit for both Vanderbilt University and our team. She has the ability to become a player on the national scene and we couldn’t be more excited to have her be a part of the Vanderbilt family.”

Mann is a native of Victoria, British Columbia. She is a breaststroke specialist who is ranked No. 7 and No. 9 in the 100 and 200 meter breaststroke, respectively, among her age group in Canada. She has posted top-times of 1:12.80 in the 100 meter breast and 2:36.16 in the 200 meter breast.

She swims with Island Swimming for Head Coach Randy Bennett and is enrolled at Reynolds Secondary School. Mann, who has her sights on making the Canadian Olympic Team for the 2016 Summer Games in Brazil, has already qualified for the Canadian Olympic Trials.

She plans to study in the Peabody College while at Vanderbilt.

“Jennifer has high aspirations to qualify for the 2016 Olympics and has chosen Vanderbilt to further her development as a swimmer,” said Organ. “We’re excited to see she will be able to develop going up against NCAA Competition.”

The current Commodore squad returns to action Friday-Sunday, November 18-20, at the Western Kentucky Invitational in Bowling Green, Ky.
