March to Missouri

Vanderbilt women's tennis kicks off SEC play on the road against the Tigers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team visits Missouri for its SEC spring season opener on Sunday.

The Dores roll into Columbia winners of six straight, the longest team streak since 2021. Vanderbilt pulled out a 4-2 victory at No. 47 Northwestern on Friday. Sophomore Valeria Ray brings an 11-match singles win streak into conference play with 21 total victories. Senior Célia-Belle Mohr and junior Bridget Stammel also ride winning stretches of their own into Sunday’s contest, with Mohr at three straight singles wins and Stammel at four.

Vanderbilt notched six regular season conference wins last season, going on to knock off Ole Miss in the opening round of the SEC Tournament. The Dores have five or more conference wins in every season under head coach Aleke Tsoubanos. Additionally, Vandy has won at least one SEC Tournament match in each of the last three seasons.

Missouri is the only team in the SEC currently outside the top 75 rankings. The Tigers have faced just one Power 4 team, Minnesota, falling 5-2 to the Golden Gophers on Feb. 7. They have dropped the last 11 against the Dores, with their last win over Vandy coming in 1981. Senior Inah Canete leads Mizzou with 15 singles wins as of Feb. 15, and freshman Gian Octa trails just behind with 13. Canete is the lone Tiger with a ranked win this season.

No. 31 Vanderbilt (7-1) seeks its seventh straight win in its SEC opener against Missouri (8-1), with play set to begin at noon. Live streaming will be available online, with live stats accessible here at the start of the match.
