Weekend Preview: After a 6-0 homestand, Vanderbilt heads west to face UC Irvine, Arizona and Oregon in Las Vegas at the Live Like Lou College Classic.

  • All three games will take place at Las Vegas Ballpark, home of the Las Vegas Aviators. The Dores played two fall games vs. Nevada at the ballpark back in October of 2024.
  • Live broadcasts of each game will be available with a subscription on D1Baseball. On radio in Nashville, the first two games will air on 94.9 The Fan with Sunday’s game airing on 102.5 The Game.
  • Vanderbilt is 2-0 all-time against UC Irvine, most recently beating the Anteaters 9-8 last season at the MLB Desert Invite. The Dores are 1-0 against Arizona and 4-5 all-time vs. Oregon.

Power Surge: Vanderbilt’s 25 home runs is tied for the SEC lead and ranks second among DI teams entering the weekend. 

  • Braden Holcomb has six homers on the season, tied for most in DI. Brodie Johnston’s five long balls is third in the SEC and ninth nationally. Johnston hit 15 out of the park last season to lead the team as a freshman.
  • Colin Barczi belted three home runs in the season-opener against No. 10 TCU to become the first Commodore since Connor Kaiser in 2018 with a three-homer game. Barczi’s homers traveled a combined 1,340 feet with each surpassing 430 feet.
  • Vanderbilt has hit four grand slams this season, already surpassing last season’s total.
  • The Dores are 4-0 when scoring in the first inning and are outscoring opponents 19-3 in the opening frame.
  • Six of Vanderbilt’s seven wins have come by way of the run-rule.
  • The Commodores have homered in all nine games.

Starting Rotation: Connor Fennell, Austin Nye and Nate Taylor will be Vandy’s starting rotation for the third week in a row

  • The trio owns a combined 1.95 ERA over 27.2 innings this season with 39 strikeouts.
  • On Opening Day, Fennell held a potent TCU offense to two runs on two hits with seven strikeouts over 5.1 innings.
  • Nye turned in 5.0 scoreless frames against Marist last weekend and hasn’t allowed an earned run over his first nine innings.
  • Taylor has tossed 8.1 innings in two starts, totaling 13 strikeouts while allowing two earned runs.

SEC Player of the Week: Braden Holcomb was named the SEC Player of the Week on Monday.

  • The center fielder hit .579 (11-for-19) over five games with five extra-base hits and 10 RBI.
  • Holcomb belted three home runs and a pair of doubles to slug 1.158. He also scored nine times and worked three walks in 19 at-bats.
  • Holcomb had four multi-hit games and helped power Vandy to four consecutive run-rule wins.
