NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt soccer, the eighth seed in the lower left quadrant, will host Lipscomb in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday night at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. and the match will air on ESPN+.
Vanderbilt, making its 13th NCAA appearance, will host the first round for the second time under head coach Darren Ambrose. Vandy enters the match 9-3-6 overall (4-2-4 SEC) coming off a loss in the opening round of the SEC Tournament in a 2-1 decision favoring Alabama. Sophomore Sydney Watts leads the Dores with seven goals on the year and has dished one assist.
Prior to the SEC Tournament, four Vanderbilt soccer members were named to All-SEC teams including Hannah McLaughlin (first team), Abi Brighton (second team), Watts (third team) and Mary Beth McLaughlin (freshman team).
Lipscomb (14-3-4, 7-1-3 ASUN) is coming off the fourth ASUN Conference Tournament Championship in program history last week. Senior forward Kiara Pralle has posted 42 points off 19 goals and four assists this season. She owns the second-best goals-per-game average in the country (0.90). Pralle was named ASUN Player of the Year and first-team all-conference.
Friday’s meeting will be the seventh in a series that Vanderbilt leads 4-1-1. The first time the two squads met was in 2014, 1-0 Commodore victory. Vandy and Lipscomb last met during the 2022 regular season, ending in a 1-1 draw.
