“I’ve been apart of Vandy Swimming now for about two months. It has been quite a big adjustment but I think we freshmen are finally getting the hang of things. We are really starting to get into practice now and have a new in-season weight routine. With our next meet being a month away, I know Jeremy is looking forward to having a solid four weeks of training before the WKU Invite. So far we have had three meets; our first at Southern Illinois last weekend and then two meets this weekend against Arkansas, Western Kentucky, and South Carolina. I have to admit, as a freshman, the new environment has been a little stressful. It’s not like club meets where you have a few hours between your races to warm down, snack, and socialize. The events run very quickly and it’s definitely something to get used to.
Although this past weekend was busy with meets, it was also a lot of fun. The stress of my first college meet was gone plus it was PARENTS WEEKEND! Since we had an away meet over Vanderbilt Parents Weekend and this weekend was fall break on campus, we decided to have our own swimmers parents weekend. It was so nice to catch up with my folks and have them supporting us at the meets. My personal favorite family member was Jen Molchan’s little sister dancing at the top of the bleachers, cheering on Vandy then entire weekend. After the meets most of us spent quality time with our parents, went shopping, and got nice meals away from the cafeteria. One of the best parts of the weekend was Friday night. We had a big dinner for all the swimmers and their families at Pie in the Sky. It was really fun to see everyone else’s parents on the team. I loved meeting everyone’s families and trying to guess whose parents were whose. Also, the food was great…a very important thing to a group of swimmers! It was a great weekend and the perfect way to spend the break from school.”
