Kwane Doster, April 13, 1983 – Dec. 26, 2004 The fathers of three members of the Vanderbilt football squad have established a memorial fund to assist the family of Kwane Doster, the Commodore standout who was killed early Sunday in Tampa, Fla. Doster, a popular junior at Vanderbilt and 2002 Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year recipient, was killed by gunfire while sitting in the back seat of a car in the Ybor City district of Tampa. Doster is survived by his mother, Kelly; a younger brother, Jermaine; older sister, Chakana; an aunt, Harriet; and several additional relatives. Contributions should be made to: The Kwane Doster Memorial Fund The fund was created through the efforts of Rod Freeman, a former Vanderbilt basketball player and the father of current Commodore defensive end Richard Freeman; Rick Joyce, father of linebacker Kevin Joyce; and Tom Bright, father of quarterback Steven Bright. Freeman, Joyce, Bright and Doster were members of the same Commodore recruiting class. |
