Pregame Notes

– The Commodores and Wildcats are meeting for the 39th time overall

– Vanderbilt leads the all-time series, 26-12 and has won 13 straight meetings since 2000.

– The Commodores are 10-7 in Lexington including six straight victories.

– Kentucky has not won since January 7th, 1999 (70-69) in Lexington.

First Half

Lauren Lueders scored VU’s first basket of the game, a fast-break layup at the 18:00 mark of the first half. She was assisted by Jence Rhoads.

Lauren Lueders went down on her own at the 17:26 mark of the first half and did not return until the 12:29 mark of the first half.

Jence Rhoads had a driving layup at the 16:32 mark of the first half to bring the Commodores within five.

Jence Rhoads had a quick tip-in at the 11:43 mark of the first half, scoring six of the Commodores’ eight points.

– The first 3-pointer of the ball game for either team came at the 10:51 mark of the first half, a nothing-but-net shot by freshman Elan Brown.

Lauren Lueders put the Commodores within three of the Wildcats’ 16 points with a layup at the 9:40 mark of the first half.

Elan Brown hit another 3-pointer for the Commodores at the 7:38 mark of the first half, bringing the Commodores within two.

– All three freshmen were on the floor during the Commodores’ comeback, combining for seven rebounds and ten points in the first half.

Jence Rhoads had a great layup off a dish from Merideth Marsh at the 3:41 mark of the first half, giving Rhoads 10 points and tying the score at 22 apiece.

Tiffany Clarke cut Kentucky’s lead to one with a layup with 44 seconds remaining in the first half.

Merideth Marsh gave Vanderbilt their first lead of the game with a quick layup with seven seconds left in the half, taking a 26-25 lead into halftime.

Elan Brown matched her career high in 3-pointers (two at UC Riverside on 11/20/09) in the first half.

Jence Rhoads led all scorers with 10 points and three assists.

– Despite having 16 turnovers in the first half (the most for the season previously was 11 against Quinnipiac and N.C. State), Vanderbilt took a lead into halftime. The Commodores are 11-1 when leading at halftime this year.

– Vanderbilt led Kentucky at the half in shooting percentage (46.2% for VU to 21.9% for UK) and 3-pointers (2-for-7 for VU, 0-for-6 for UK), but the Wildcats were 11-for-15 from the charity stripe while the Commodores were 0-for-2.

Second Half

Jessica Mooney made her first basket of the game, a driving layup at the 18:34 mark of the second half, building VU’s lead to three.

– Mooney then made the Commodores’ first free throw of the game at the 17:34 mark of the second half. She missed the second, but Tiffany Clarke was able to get a tip-in at the 17:30 mark.

Hannah Tuomi made her first basket of the game, a jumper at the 17:06 mark of the second half, extending Vanderbilt’s lead to eight.

– Vanderbilt went on a 9-0 run at the beginning of the second half, forcing Kentucky to take their first timeout of the game. During this run, Vanderbilt also forced Kentucky to miss their first nine shots of the half.

– The Commodores took their first double-digit lead of the game with a layup from Tiffany Clarke off a feed from Jessica Mooney at the 16:19 mark of the second half.

– Kentucky made their first basket of the half at the 15:34 mark. They followed quickly with a fast-break layup at the 15:11 mark.

Tiffany Clarke tied her career high in blocks at the 13:53 mark of the second half with three.

Jence Rhoads had her first points of the half at the 13:29 mark with a layup and scored Vanderbilt’s next basket with another layup a minute later at the 12:29 mark.

Merideth Marsh scored her second basket of the game, a fast-break layup at the 9:59 mark of the second half.

– Kentucky took the lead back at the 7:10 mark of the second half on a fast-break layup by UK’s Amber Smith, the Wildcats’ leading scorer of the game.

Jence Rhoads cut Kentucky’s lead to two with a jumper at the 5:47 mark of the second half, as the shot clock expired.

Elan Brown matched her career-high in points, with eight, at the 3:34 mark of the second half. With her layup, she brought Vanderbilt back within four.

Jessica Mooney fouled out at the 2:38 mark with five points and four rebounds.

Merideth Marsh halted the Commodores’ scoring drought with a 3-pointer with 23 seconds remaining in the game. The Commodores lost by 10, their second-largest margin of defeat for the season.

Postgame Notes

– Vanderbilt falls to 12-4 on the season and 1-2 in SEC play. The Wildcats are now 13-2 and 1-1 in SEC play.

– Vanderbilt committed 25 turnovers against Kentucky, a season-high.

– This is the second game in a row in which Vanderbilt relinquished their first half lead for a loss. The Commodores are now 11-2 when leading at halftime.

– VU had a season-low in points with 53. Vanderbilt’s season-low in points previously was 59 against St. Joseph’s on November 24th, 2009.

Elan Brown had a career game for the Commodores with a career-high in points (8) and rebounds (8).

Jence Rhoads led the Commodores with 17 points, one shy of matching her career-high. She was the only ‘Dore in double figures for scoring.

Tiffany Clarke co-led the Commodores in rebounds with eight (Elan Brown also had eight).

– Kentucky still won despite having their lowest field goal percentage of the season with 31.3% (20-64).
