Nashville, Tenn. Junior Jeren Kendall was selected 23rd overall by the Los Angeles in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft on Monday night to become the 18th first round selection out of Vanderbilt.

The Holmen, Wisc. native has enjoyed a stellar career for the Commodores, hitting .309 with 32 home runs and 152 RBIs. He earned first team All-SEC status from the league’s coaches and earned third team All-American honors from Baseball America after hitting 15 home runs and starting in all 62 games for the Dores this season as part of a 172-game starts streak. His name dots the program’s record book ranking seventh on the all-time stolen base list with 67 and second all-time with 19 triples.

Kendall is the highest drafted outfielder in Vanderbilt history becoming the first Commodore outfielder taken in the first round. He joins former Vandy position players Joey Cora (1985), Glenn Davis (1997), Pedro Alvarez (2008), Ryan Flaherty (2008) and Dansby Swanson (2015) as first round picks.

Kendall is the first player since Jordan Sheffield last summer to be picked by the Dodgers. Kendall joins former teammates Sheffield and Walker Buehler in the Dodgers’ organization.

For the fifth time in program history the Commodores have produced multiple first round picks with Kendall joining Kyle Wright (5th overall to Atlanta) as first round picks Monday night. Vanderbilt produced multiple first round picks in 2007, 2008, 2011 and a program record three first round picks in 2015.

Kendall is the highest drafted OF in #VandyBoys history.
