NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Sonya Macavei and Sophia Webster each won their singles matches in straight sets Sunday as Vanderbilt women’s tennis concluded play in its annual home tournament, the June Stewart Invitational, at the Lummis Family Tennis Center.
Facing Kentucky in singles play in the final segment of the three-day event, Webster outlasted Elena Molla 7-5, 6-2 while Macavei defeated Ellie Myers 6-1, 6-1. Webster also went 3-0 in doubles action over the weekend, as she and Célia-Belle Mohr—who are currently 12th in the ITA rankings—teamed up to defeat Purdue’s Sophya Devas and Kathryn Wilson 6-4.
Next up for Vanderbilt is the NCAA Singles & Doubles Championships at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, Nov. 18-23. Three Dores will represent the program in singles along with two in doubles.
