NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Brodie Johnston was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Johnston helped lead Vanderbilt to three wins on the week including a series win over Alabama at Hawkins Field.
The freshman hit .438 (7-for-16) in Vandy’s four games with three doubles, five RBI and three runs scored. He hit the game-tying, two-run double with two outs in the bottom of the ninth of Sunday’s win over No. 18 Alabama. He then scored the winning run on Braden Holcomb’s walk-off homer to end the game.
Johnston also showcased his defense including starting a double play in the top of the ninth on Sunday to keep the Dores to within two runs of the Crimson Tide.
A native of Ooltewah, Tennessee, Johnston also played a big role in Vanderbilt’s 12-2, run-rule victory over the Crimson Tide on Friday. He went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored.
Vanderbilt has picked up three weekly awards from the SEC this season. Johnston was also named Co-Freshman of the Week on March 10 and Connor Fennell earned Pitcher of the Week honors on April 28.
Vanderbilt heads north to Louisville to face the Cardinals on Tuesday in the Battle of the Barrel.
