Vanderbilt right-hander Jensen Lewis (6-3, 195, Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio) has been named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Lewis was the Saturday starter for the Commodores and went 7.0 innings facing 24 batters giving up just one hit (a single) and striking out nine batters in the 5-2 win over VMI. Lewis’ nine strikeouts are the second-highest in his career.
Lewis gave up his only hit of the game in the seventh inning, followed by a walk. With runners on first and second, Lewis assisted on the first out — a sacrifice bunt — that advanced the runners to second and third with one away. He then struck out the next two batters to retire the side allowing no VMI runs. Batters owned a .053 average against him.
