Initial Honor for Stowers

Tight end recognized on Walter Camp preseason All-America team

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt’s Eli Stowers has been named preseason first-team All-America by the Walter Camp Football Foundation it was announced by the organization on Tuesday.

Originally from Denton, Texas, the graduate student is coming off a 2024 campaign—his first with the program—in which he was named third-team All-America by Phil Steele, was a semifinalist for the Mackey Award presented to the nation’s most outstanding tight end and was a first-team All-SEC selection.

Stowers caught 49 passes for 638 yards and five touchdowns last fall, all team-leading totals, in helping the Commodores finish 7-6 following a victory over Georgia Tech in the Birmingham Bowl. He collected at least one reception in all but one contest and posted 100 or more yards on three occasions to end up with the second-highest yardage total by a Vandy tight end since 1996.

That included recording 133 yards on six catches in the Dores’ defeat of No. 1 Alabama, making him just the sixth tight end to finish with 100-plus receiving yards against the Crimson Tide dating back to the 1996 season. Stowers also had eight receptions for 130 yards in a win over Ball State and made the Pro Football Focus national and SEC teams of the week after finishing with a career-best nine catches for 110 yards at Georgia State.

Vanderbilt begins the 2025 season with a matchup against Charleston Southern at FirstBank Stadium on Aug. 30, with kickoff slated for 6 p.m. Information for tickets to that contest, as well as for the Commodores other six home games in the fall, is available here.
