NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Sophomore Pablo Martinez Gomez and freshman Hoyoung Roh were awarded with SEC postseason honors, announced by the conference on Thursday.
The two are the first recipients of postseason awards for the program since junior Danil Panarin brought home SEC Freshman of the Year in 2024. Martinez Gomez was named second-team All-SEC, earning the first All-SEC selection of his career. Hoyoung earned SEC All-Freshman team status in his debut season with the Commodores.
Martinez Gomez delivered Vanderbilt 13 total singles victories this season, eight of which came in dual match play. After beginning the year playing between the No. 1 and No. 2 positions in singles, he solidified his spot atop the singles lineup after producing four ranked wins this season. Martinez Gomez generated the first ranked victory of his career over No. 79 Oscar Lacides of Oklahoma on Feb. 27, helping Vanderbilt overcome a 3-0 deficit to down the Sooners 4-3 in Norman. The sophomore notched his highest-ranked win on March 29, 1-6, 6-0, 6-3, over LSU’s No. 29 Olaf Pieczkowski, who was named the 2026 SEC Freshman of the Year. In the fall, Martinez Gomez brought home Vanderbilt’s first singles title at the Ohio Valley Regional Championship since Daniel Valent in 2017, earning an automatic berth into the NCAA Singles Championship.
Hoyoung finished the regular season with nine dual match wins, playing primarily at the No. 2 position for the black and gold. He trailed just behind Martinez Gomez in ranked victories with three, starting with a takedown of No. 56 Roan Jones of North Carolina on Jan. 23. Hoyoung also picked up wins over Tennessee’s No. 58 Alejandro Moreno and No. 82 Matic Kriznik from Alabama. He led the team in doubles victories with 13, all coming in dual match play.
Both players achieved career-high rankings from the ITA this season. After his performance at regionals, Martinez Gomez rose to No. 62 in the singles rankings. Hoyoung currently sits at 14th in doubles play alongside senior Nathan Cox, going as high as No. 11 together. The pair lead Vanderbilt in doubles victories with 10, which includes four wins over ranked opponents. Hoyoung also climbed as high as No. 70 in singles this year.
No. 24 Vanderbilt sets its sights on an NCAA Tournament run, with the men’s bracket set to release on April 27 at 3 p.m. CT. For more information, updates and exclusive match day content, follow the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team, @VandyMTennis, on Instagram and X.
