Vanderbilt opens season with win over Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt men’s basketball started off the season hot on Monday night with a 105-61 victory over crosstown opponent Lipscomb. The Commodores led from the jump, were up 30 points at the half and never let up after the break.

Vanderbilt started off the season with a 12-0 run to open the game. After trading baskets into the 10-minute mark, the Dores then went on a 19-2 spurt over a five-minute span. Three Commodores reached double figures in the first half with Tyler Harris scoring all 15 of his points in the period.

Vanderbilt kept the hot hand in the second half, opening with a 14-2 run to stretch the lead to 45. With just over three minutes remaining, Vandy crossed the 100-point mark for the first time doing so since in last season’s win over New Orleans.

Four Commodores scored 15-plus points tonight for the first time since 2021. Tyler Nickel knocked down six threes on his way to a 20-point performance. Tyler Tanner notched a career-high 18 points and added four steals. Along with Harris’ 15, AK Okereke had 16 in his Vanderbilt debut.

Duke Miles matched his career high in assists with nine. The graduate transfer added 10 points in his first game at Memorial Gym. Frankie Collins had four points, four rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Jalen Washington had nine points, and Devin McGlockton scored six to go along with 12 rebounds.

The Commodores kept Lipscomb to just 30 percent from the field. Vandy totaled 23 assists, 14 steals, and six blocks in the game. The Dores shot 56 percent from the field and 55 percent from beyond the arc.

Vanderbilt will play next at UCF on Saturday. The Commodores return to Memorial Gym on Nov. 12 to play Eastern Kentucky.
