NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt will close out its regular season Monday with its always-anticipated annual home tournament, the Mason Rudolph Championship, at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.
“We only play at home one time a year and it is always so exciting when we do,” Vandy head coach Scott Limbaugh said. “Vanderbilt Legends Club is a special place with special people and it means a lot to play a home game. There are so many people here that touch our program in some way every single day and we couldn’t do what we do without their support. We would sure appreciate having our fans coming out to celebrate this special group of guys.”
The Commodores have had a busy spring that started Feb. 5-6 when they won the John Hayt Invitational. Vanderbilt also captured titles at the Watersound Invitational and Cabo Collegiate before taking third place at the Linger Longer Invitational and fourth at the Calusa Cup.
Vandy, which won the Mason Rudolph in 2022, will have Gordon Sargent, William Moll, Matthew Riedel, Cole Sherwood and Wells Williams in the lineup this week. Sargent rejoins the team after spending a week at the Masters Tournament. Sherwood was the 2022 individual champion with a three-day total of 196 (-17).
Vanderbilt has won the Mason Rudolph seven times with five of those victories coming since 2015. Admission is free to the this week’s event.
“I think it’s important for us to take pride in finishing the regular season the right way,” Limbaugh said. “It’s exciting to have Gordon back in the lineup and it was important to him to come back to compete with his teammates. Everything we want is in front of us, but we have to keep putting in the work, learning from our mistakes and keep figuring out ways to stay sharp mentally and physically.
“You have to embrace competition and be able to enjoy being pushed this time of year and when your number is called you have to step up. I’m excited for the week and to watch our guys play with the type of passion that you have when you truly love doing something.”
Vanderbilt’s Reid Davenport, Jackson Van Paris and Jansen Preston will also be competing this week as individuals.
Monday’s first tee time is scheduled for 8 a.m. while the Commodores will begin their round as a team at 10:23 a.m. Live scoring for the event can be found HERE.
