Hawkins earns AAC Defensive Player of the Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Vanderbilt lacrosse senior Melissa Hawkins earned American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday by the conference office.

Hawkins secured the honor after standout performances on the defensive end in two games versus Temple.

In the Friday matchup with the Owls, Hawkins accounted for three ground balls and one caused turnover. She followed up on Sunday with seven ground balls and six caused turnovers – tied for the third-most caused turnovers in an NCAA Division I game this season.

For Hawkins, it is her second time earning the award in 2021. She also took home the honor on March 8.

Next on the schedule for the Commodores is a return trip to Gainesville, Florida for the AAC Tournament. The second-seeded Dores will take on third-seeded Temple in the semifinals on May 6.
