Harriott Headed to Olympic Qualifiers

The Vanderbilt defender will represent Jamaica

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Madiya Harriott earned a spot on the final 20-player roster for Jamaica for the 2020 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship, it was announced Thursday.

The Vanderbilt defender played in all 21 games in 2019 while making 15 starts on the back line. Her lone goal of the season came in overtime against Tennessee on Sept. 22 for the game-winner.

Harriott was also named to the 2019 SEC All-Tournament team for her role in Vanderbilt’s run to the semifinals.

This isn’t the first time Harriott has gotten international experience with Jamaica. She attended the Pan American Games in the summer of 2019 as well as the World Cup camp for Jamaica in May of 2019.

Harriott joins former Vanderbilt student-athlete Cheyna Matthews (2012-13) with the Jamaican National Team.

The championship will kick off with an initial group stage Jan. 28-Feb. 4. Group A matches will take place at the BBVA Stadium in Houston, Texas, on Jan. 28, Jan. 31 and Feb. 3. Other teams in Group A are Costa Rica, Haiti, Panama and the United States.

Group B matches are set for Jan. 29, Feb. 1 and Feb. 4 at the HEB Park in Edinburg, Texas. Jamaica is in Group B with Canada, Mexico and St. Kitts and Nevis.

The Reggae Girlz, as the Jamaican National Team is known as, begins qualifying play at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 1 against Canada.
