Former Commodore Sonny Gray made his Major League debut Wednesday night at Pittsburgh, turning in two scoreless innings against the Pirates.
Gray worked a perfect 1-2-3 fifth inning in relief, striking out Clint Barmes and Francisco Liriano for his first two career strikeouts. Gray pitched around a leadoff single in the sixth and got fellow Vandy baseball alum and All-Star Pedro Alvarez to pop up to end the inning.
Gray becomes the sixth Commodore to play in the big leagues this season and fifth current Dore in the Show joining David Price, Ryan Flaherty, Mike Minor and Alvarez. The Smyrna, Tenn. native was 8-5 with a 2.81 ERA in 16 starts for Triple-A Sacramento before being called up.
