BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference released its weekly honors Wednesday morning with senior Gonzales Austin as the SEC Player of the Week. Austin is the second Commodore this year to win a weekly honor. Daniel Valent was the first freshman of the 2015 season named the SEC Freshman of the Week.

Austin plays in the No. 1 and is currently ranked No. 9 in the nation. Alongside his partner, Rhys Johnson, the duo comprises the No. 1 team in the country.
This is Austin’s first time with the award in his four years at Vanderbilt. The Miami, Fla. native earned the honor after accumulating an undefeated 10-0 singles and 8-0 doubles mark heading into SEC action. Half of Austin’s singles victories came over ranked opponents.
With a career record of 97-40, Austin is just two wins away from tying the individual singles win record held by Bobby Reynolds at 99.

Austin and the Commodores hit the road this weekend, taking on Arkansas Friday at 2 p.m. and Ole Miss Sunday at 1 p.m.
