Gold Evens Series With Black In 5-0 Win 10/15/2005 Nashville, Tenn. – The freshman pitching duo of Nick Christiani and Bobby Kennedy combined for a two-hit shutout to lead the Gold squad to a 5-0 win over the Black team in the second game of the Black and Gold Series Saturday afternoon at Hawkins Field. The Gold, who lost 5-0 in Friday?s game, evened the three-game series at 1-1. Christiani, a righthander from Linden, N.J., gave up just one hit in five innings of work and struck out three to pick up the win. Kennedy, a lefthander from Ocala, Fla., closed out the game with four innings of one-hit ball to record the save. The Gold team broke a scoreless tie in the sixth when leftfielder Jonathan White scored from second on a deep fly ball to center by shortstop Ryan Flaherty. Black team centerfielder Diallo Fon chased down the ball near the warning track, allowing White to tag from second and blaze around third to score. Back to back doubles by rightfielder Ryan Davis and designated hitter Kurt Lipton in the seventh pushed the Gold lead to 2-0. They then closed the game out with three more runs in the ninth. First baseman Brian Hernandez started the scoring with a solo homer to right. Davis had a RBI double and Lipton a RBI single in the frame. Hernandez, Davis and Lipton led the Gold with two hits each, while leftfielder Parker Hanks and designated hitter Andrew Giobbi recorded the lone hits for the Black. Sophomore righthander Ty Davis fared well on the mound for the Black, pitching five scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Freshman Josh Zeid was charged with the loss after giving up five runs in four innings of relief.
