Meet Avery, a freshman attacker from Waterloo, Ontario

Q: Why did you choose to commit to Vandy?

Morton: “Vandy had everything I was hoping for, a fantastic lacrosse program, blending high competitiveness with a strong emphasis on academics. Not to mention, a city, campus and team environment that is second to none!”

Q: What are your academic goals while at Vanderbilt and longterm?

Morton: “My goal is to graduate from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Neuroscience or MHS. Beyond that, someday I hope to work in the medical field or do scientific research.”

Q: What made you decide you wanted to continue lacrosse in college?

Morton: “I have always aspired to play my favorite sport at the highest level possible. This was a decision I made pretty early and have worked very hard to make possible!”

 Q: What would you say your biggest strength as a player is?

Morton: “My biggest strength as a player is my ability to find open teammates. I get just as excited to set up my teammates as I do scoring myself.”

Q: What about Nashville are you most excited to explore?

Morton: “I can’t wait to explore Nashville’s vibrant music and entertainment scene.” 

Q: What are your hobbies outside of lacrosse?

Morton: “Outside of lacrosse, my next biggest passion is ice hockey. I started playing when I was eight and continued until my senior year of high school. Aside from that, I love to cook, bake, listen to music and work out.”

Q: Do you have any hidden talents?

Morton: “One of my hidden talents is that I can play the guitar. My dad taught me when I was young and it is something I love to do.”

 Q: What is a random, fun fact about you that most people don’t know?

Morton: “I am terrified of the ocean. I can’t say I have or will swim in one.”

Q: Is there anything else you would like Commodore Nation to know about you?

Morton: “I’m thrilled to join Commodore Nation and can’t wait for this upcoming season!”
