NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Playing in its final non-conference match of the year, the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon.
Lauren Mira and Keilly Ulery dropped an 8-3 decision in the No. 3 match, before Rachael Dillon and Alex Leatu evened things up with a 9-7 win in the No. 1 match. Chelsea Preeg and Jackie Wu were unable to hold off Sasha Krupina and Elizabeth Kilborn, falling 9-7 in the No. 2 match.
Mira evened up the score with a straight-set victory in the No. 4 match. Georgia Tech reclaimed the lead with consecutive wins on courts five and one. Dillon jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead in the No. 5 match, but fell in the second and third sets to Kilborn. In the No. 1 match, Leatu lost both sets in the tiebreaker.
The Commodores won the next two singles matches to tie the score at 3-3. Ulery defeated Lynn Blau, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(3) on court six and Preeg picked up a 6-3, 7-6(4) win in the No. 2 match. Preeg has now won 11 consecutive matches dating back to Jan. 29.
With the No. 3 match left to decide the outcome of the match, Wu and Georgia Tech’s Caroline Lilley split the first two matches, 6-4, 0-6 before playing to a 6-6 tie in the third set. Lilly capitalized in the tiebreaker, winning 7-5 to pick up the match victory for the visitors.
