Gators Chomp Back

No. 15 Florida answers No. 19 Vanderbilt’s doubles win on the way to victory

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – While No. 19 Vanderbilt started strong winning the doubles point Saturday morning, No. 15 Florida overcame the deficit in singles action to earn a 4-2 victory.

Doubles saw Vanderbilt’s No. 3 duo of Christina Rosca and Anessa Lee earn a 6-2 victory to set the pace for Vandy. While the Dores’ No. 2 duo fell, No. 54 Anna Ross and Holly Staff took the biggest victory of their Vanderbilt (12-7, 4-7 SEC) careers with a 6-3 clinching win over the nation’s second-ranked duo of Marlee Zein and McCartney Kessler.

In singles, Lee gave Vanderbilt a 2-0 lead by making quick work of No. 111 Sara Dahlstrom with a 6-1, 6-2 win. The Gators (11-6, 9-3 SEC) took over from there, though, by taking wins at Nos. 3, 6, 1 and 4 to take the win.

While Florida took the 4-2 victory, Emma Kurtz battled with No. 36 Zein into a third set, but the match went unfinished 7-5, 2-6, 1-1.

The Commodores will remain on the road for the final weekend of the regular season next week when they visit Ole Miss on Thursday at 2 p.m. CT and Mississippi State on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT. After that, the conference will converge on Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for the 2021 SEC Tournament April 19-23.
