Most impressive win of 2009: There weren’t any in a difficult year for the Eagles. They did battle Northwestern, Vanderbilt’s first opponent of 2010, hard in a 27-24 loss on Sept. 12.
Worst loss: The Eagles got it handed to them more than a few times in 2009. They managed their lowest point total in a 50-6 loss by conference foe Northern Illinois on Nov. 5, but the most lopsided defeat came at the hands of MAC champion Central Michigan, 56-8, on Oct. 10.
Last time Eastern Michigan played Vanderbilt: It was 2007, and it was a 30-7 win for the Commodores at Vanderbilt Stadium on Sept. 29. The Eagles were held to just 173 yards and turned the ball over five times. Quarterback Chris Nickson threw a career-high four interceptions but also had two touchdown passes.
Vanderbilt-Eastern Michigan series: Vanderbilt leads 1-0. The Commodores and Eagles have only met the one time, three years ago.
Notes: The Eagles were one of two winless teams in Division I football last year, Western Kentucky being the other … Former Commodore All-American D.J. Moore registered the only pick-six of his career against Eastern Michigan in 2007, finishing it off with a flip into the end zone … The Eagles surrendered an average of 276.8 rushing yards per game last season, by far the most in the nation … Vanderbilt faced Ron English when he was a defensive coordinator at Michigan in 2006 … Back-up Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch played football at Eastern Michigan and will compete for the starting job while Ben Roethlisberger serves his league suspension.
