Postgame Notes vs. Tennessee – Game 1
May 2, 2008 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn.

Team Records and Series Notes:

– Vanderbilt improves to 32-13 and 12- 9 in the Southeastern Conference, while Tennessee drops to 25-21 and 11-11 in conference play.

– Tennessee still leads the overall series 162-137-2, including a 54-24 advantage in Knoxville. However, the Commodores have won five of the last six meetings between the two teams.

– Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin improves his record to 230-121, including a 13-5 mark all-time against the Volunteers.

– The Commodores improve to 20-5 when scoring first and are now 8-1 on Fridays during the season.

– Vanderbilt and Tennessee continue its weekend series Saturday with game two. First pitch at Lindsey Nelson Stadium is scheduled for 3 p.m. (CT) and the game will be carried live on Fox Sports South (television) and the Vanderbilt/ISP Sports Network (radio) with Joe Fisher.

Vanderbilt Individual Notes:

– Senior centerfielder David Macias paced the Commodore offensive attack, tying a career high with four hits and reaching base all five times he came to the plate. Macias equaled a season high with three RBI and scored two runs.

– Junior shortstop Ryan Flaherty got the Commodores off to an early 3-0 lead with a towering home run over the scoreboard in right center field. The homer was his team-high 12th of the season and 18th of his career. He finished the night with two hits and tied for the team high with three RBI.

– Senior catcher Shea Robin tallied two hits on the night for the Commodores and scored a run. Robin now has 14 multi-hit games on the season.

– Freshman leftfielder Steven Liddle also registered two hits for the `Dores. The Brentwood, Tenn., native equaled a career high with two runs scored and drove in a run.

– Junior hurler Mike Minor picked up the victory to improve to 5-3 on the season. Minor is now 3-0 all-time against Tennessee. Minor allowed five runs on seven hits in 8.2 innings. He struck out five and walked two.

– Junior relief pitcher Brett Jacobson came in to record the final out and picked up his third save of the season.
