No. 16 Vanderbilt eyes 10th straight win, visits Arkansas on Friday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — No. 16 Vanderbilt women’s tennis looks to remain perfect in SEC play with a Friday afternoon road matchup against Arkansas.

No. 119-ranked sophomore Valeria Ray leads the Dores into Fayetteville on a 14-match win streak. The stretch remains the longest active in SEC play, and is just six away from tying the program record for consecutive singles wins. Both junior Bridget Stammel and senior Célia-Belle Mohr jumped multiple spots in the most recent ITA singles rankings, with Stammel reaching No. 35 and Mohr at No. 44. Vanderbilt secured a top-10 position in doubles as Mohr and freshman Sophia Webster climbed to No. 9.

The Dores captured their first ranked win of the season on Sunday, downing No. 17 Alabama 5-2. The victory was the ninth straight for Vanderbilt, marking the longest team streak with Aleke Tsoubanos as head coach. It is the most consecutive team victories since the 2017-2018 season, in which the Commodores finished as NCAA finalists.

Arkansas has begun SEC play against a gauntlet of ranked teams. The Razorbacks are 0-3 versus conference foes, with losses to No. 12 Oklahoma, No. 5 Texas A&M and No. 11 Texas. Carolina Gomez Alonso is the lone Arkansas player represented in the ITA singles rankings, sitting at No. 55 with a singles record of 9-9. Gomez Alonso has netted four ranked singles wins thus far, the highest coming over No. 12 Julia Garcia Ruiz of Oklahoma. In doubles, the Razorbacks are led by the No. 82-ranked duo of Anet Koskel and Grace O’Donnell. The two are 9-9 together this season, with a 3-2 record against ranked opponents.
