Vanderbilt Head Coach James Franklin will make a live national television appearance Friday, appearing on MSNBC’s Morning Joe Show.

Franklin will appear with Morning Joe Show co-hosts Willie Geist and Joe Scarborough, starting at 7:45 a.m.

Geist, a 1997 Vanderbilt graduate, and Scarborough, an Alabama alum, will broadcast their show Friday from a restaurant near Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. Franklin will appear via satellite from Vanderbilt’s on-campus studio.

“On a typical day, we interview presidential candidates, senators, and CEOs, but I have to confess I’m most excited this week to talk to Coach Franklin. I love his message, I love his style, and I love the way he represents our great school to the country. Plus, doing the show from Tuscaloosa surrounded by The Tide, I’m going to need a little Black and Gold backup.”

Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban and former Crimson Tide legend Joe Namath are also scheduled to make live appearances on the show.

The MSNBC appearance is part of a busy media schedule for Franklin, who has the Commodores 3-1 in his first year. He will also talk to hosts of three Nashville sports talk shows:

  • 8:05 a.m. The Morning Sports Page with Greg Pogue and David Coleman on 560-AM
  • 8:20 a.m. The First Quarter with Darren McFarland and Brad Hopkins on 102.5 The Game
  • 9:03 a.m. The Old Spice Wake Up Zone with Kevin Ingram, Mark Howard and Frank Wycheck on 104.5 The Zone

Geist, editor of Vanderbilt’s student newspaper during his undergraduate days, remains an avid follower of Commodore athletics.
