NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team placed four members in the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings of the 2024-25 season. Senior Célia-Belle Mohr and junior Bridget Stammel are ranked in both singles and doubles rankings, while freshman Sophia Webster and sophomore Valeria Ray join them in the doubles rankings.
Mohr opens the season ranked No. 3 in singles, besting her previous career-high No. 6 ranking from the end of last year’s campaign. She is the highest ranked Commodore since Fernanda Contreras, the program’s record holder for most season singles wins (43) and career singles wins (136), reached No. 3 in 2018.
Last season, Mohr posted a 33-9 singles record, including a 15-4 record in dual play and 16 match wins over nationally ranked singles opponents. The back-to-back ITA All-American helped lead the team to an NCAA tournament berth last season, where Vanderbilt advanced to an NCAA Super Regional after upsetting No. 12 seeded Ohio State.
Stammel starts the year with a No. 34 singles ranking. She is building off a season in which she posted 23 singles wins, including four ranked victories, and climbed as high as No. 23 in the country. The former SEC All-Freshman Team member owns a 53-28 career singles record and looks to continue adding much more to that total.
Mohr returns to the doubles rankings with a new-look pairing alongside Webster; the two open the fall season ranked No. 29 in doubles. Mohr achieved a career-high No. 16 doubles ranking with Anessa Lee last season, en route to both finishing the year as ITA All-Americans. Webster begins her collegiate career with high expectations but is no stranger to the limelight. She committed to the Commodores in February as a 5-star Blue Chip recruit, boasting a No. 18 national ranking and a No. 4 ranking in the state of Florida. Webster’s family line is nothing but tennis: her mother, Stella, is the head coach for UCLA women’s tennis and her twin sister, Savannah, is a member of the Miami (Fla.) women’s tennis program, all while Webster’s uncle, Pete Sampras, is a 14-time Grand Slam champion.
The duo of Stammel and Ray open the fall season ranked No. 64, marking Stammel’s first career doubles ranking. Ray makes a return to the list after achieving her highest doubles ranking last season at No. 59 with Holly Staff. Mohr and Webster may have to overcome building new chemistry together, but Stammel and Ray will hit the court where they left off, having already played 14 matches together. The pair went 9-5 last year, which included a five-match win streak from Jan. 21 to Feb. 11.
Vanderbilt opens its 2024-25 season at the ITA All-American Championships in Cary, North Carolina on Sept. 21-28.
