NASHVILLE, Tenn. — College Sports Communicators has named four members of the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team as Academic All-District honorees.
Anna Ross, Holly Staff, Anessa Lee and Amy Stevens were among the NCAA women’s tennis players around the country who qualified for this award, competing in more than half of the season’s matches while maintaining above a 3.5 GPA.
Ross, a senior from Charleston, South Carolina, earned a No. 65 ranking in singles this season. In 2022, she was named an All-American in doubles and named to the All-SEC second team after her run with Holly Staff in the 2022 NCAA Doubles Championships. The awards and accolades didn’t stop there for Ross, as she earned the 2022 Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Regional honor. Off the court, she has completed community service throughout Nashville, including hosting girls on campus for Girls and Women in Sports Day and participating in the Habitat for Humanity Annual Commodore Trot.
Staff, a junior from Manchester, England, ended this season with a 21-16 overall record. With Ross, the duo advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2022 NCAA Doubles Championship. Also in 2022, Staff was named as an All-American in doubles, an All-SEC second team member, and an SEC Academic Honor Roll honoree. Staff has committed to serve the community with her work at the Jones Paideia Elementary School as a tutor and participating in Vanderbilt’s National Day of Service.
Lee, a junior from San Marino, California, notched her first 30-plus singles win season, claiming a spot in the Vanderbilt record book. Her highest singles ranking this season was No. 98, and her highest doubles ranking was No. 55 with partner Celia-Belle Mohr. In 2022, Lee earned a spot on the All-SEC second team and on the SEC Academic Honor Roll. As a freshman, she made the 2021 SEC All-Freshman Team and the First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll. Similar to her teammates, Lee has participated in community service activities with organizations including Habitat for Humanity and the Jones Paideia Elementary School.
Stevens, a sophomore from Geelong, Victoria, Australia, went on a season-best four-match singles win streak that helped Vanderbilt beat three ranked teams. At the 2023 SEC tournament, Stevens clinched the first-round win over Alabama to advance Vanderbilt into the next round. Additionally, she defeated a top 70 singles opponent in SEC play. Last season, Stevens clinched the match in the 2022 NCAA second round to send the team to the NCAA Super Regionals. As a freshman, she earned SEC Freshman of the Week and was named to the 2022 First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll. In addition to her athletic career, Stevens has completed community service activities with the Jones Paideia Elementary School and participated in the National Day of Service.
