NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Gabby Fornia and Emily Mathewson were tabbed unanimous All-American Athletic Conference selections, the league announced Thursday.
The Commodores were also picked to finish third from the leagues head coaches.
The selections and honors come after the Commodores advanced to the first AAC tournament in 2019. This is Mathewson’s second preseason honor by the conference in as many seasons while this is the first preseason honor for Fornia.
Fornia was named to the All-AAC first team with Mathewson earning a second team nod in 2019. Mathewson was second on the team in goals (26) and assists (16).
Mathewson has scored 77 goals over the past two seasons becoming just the fifth Commodore to score 50 goals in a season after scoring 51 in 2018. She is six goals shy from 100 for her career.
Fornia set a school record with 36 assists in her sophomore campaign after she passed Sarah Downing’s mark of 34 assists set in 2010. She also has the third-best single-game assist mark in Vanderbilt history with six assists in a game against Winthrop on March 16, 2019.
Fornia and Mathewson are moving their way up the Vanderbilt leaderboards in assists with 52 and 55 assists, respectively.
Vanderbilt’s season begins Feb. 9 on the road against Wagner.
