Former All-American Reynolds Wins Music City Challenger

11/15/2005

Nashville — Former Commodore All-American Bobby Reynolds is having his most successful year as a professional since he left Vanderbilt in 2003. The former No. 1-ranked player in the country and VU’s all- time career wins leader added another title to his resume when he captured the 2005 Music City Challenger, hosted at Vanderbilt’s Currey Tennis Center.

Reynolds, who was ranked 116 in the world and the No. 4 seed in the 32-man USTA event never dropped a set as he outlasted five opponents to win the tournament. In the finals, he defeated No. 3 seed and 114-ranked Ramon Delgado of Paraguay, 6-4, 6-4.

One interesting match along the way was the quarterfinals in which Reynolds 6-4, 7-6 (7) defeated Amer Delic, the tournament’s No. 7 seed who is ranked No. 157. Delic played for the University of Illinois, which defeated the Commodores in the 2003 NCAA National Team Championships. Reynolds defeated Delic that year, but it was Delic’s team who won the national title. This time around Reynolds beat Delic and got a title.
