Fish/Taylor Advance in NCAA Doubles

ATHENS, Ga. — Senior Amanda Fish and junior Amanda Taylor advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2007 NCAA Women’s Doubles Championship with a straight-set victory Thursday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

The Vanderbilt duo will take on Penn’s Maria Anisimova and Kate Kosminskaya on Friday at 2:30 p.m. ET for a chance to advance to the tournament’s quarterfinals.

On Thursday, Fish and Taylor defeated Brigham Young’s Jenny Miccoli and Anastasia Surkova, 6-2, 6-2.

In the singles championship, three Commodores had advanced through Wednesday’s first round only to fall in the Round of 32.

Fish was upended by Georgia Tech’s Kristi Miller, 6-3, 6-2. Taylor fell to Baylor’s Zuzana Zemenova, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Newman was also defeated in three sets by Stanford’s Theresa Logar, 6-7, 6-2, 7-6.
