Fish Drops First Match at ITA All-Americans

Junior Amanda Fish (Scituate, Mass.) lost her opening match in the main draw at the Riviera/ITA All-Americans Thursday afternoon. At the Pacific Palisades, Calif., Fish fell in three sets to Northwestern’s Alexis Prousis 6-1, 0-6, 6-3.

Fish, the No. 17-ranked player in country, had previously lost in the first round of qualifying on the doubles side with her teammate Taka Bertrand (Great Falls, Va.). Bertrand, who wsa the No. 11 seed in the qualifying bracket lost her third round match Wednesday.

Sophomore Taka Bertrand (Great Falls, Va.) dropped a two-set match in the third round of qualifiers at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championship. Betrand, the No. 11 seed in qualifying and the No. 41 ranked player in the preseason, lost to Amanda Finkof Southern Cal 6-2, 6-3.

With the loss of the Vanderbilt doubles team (Bertrand and junior Amanda Fish) the sophomore’s tournament is over, but she gained valuable experience in four matches against some of the top competition in America this week.

Fish (Scituate, Mass.), did not have to qualify as the preseaon No. 17 player in the country. She will begin her singles play in the Main Draw tomorrow.

Bertrand Advances to Third Round

Sophomore Taka Bertrand (Great Falls, Va.) won her second-round qualifying match Tuesday afternoon over Indiana’s Dora Vastag, 7-5, 6-2. Bertrand, the No. 11 seed in the qualifiers bracket, moves on to the Round of 16 where she will face Southern California’s Amanda Fink.

On the doubles side, Bertrand and her partner Amanda Fish (Scituate, Mass.), who will begin singles play Thursday against a qualified qualifier, lost their opening round doubles match-up against a Fresno State team of Kathrin Winterhalter and Lucia Sainz, 8-1.

Fish, Bertrand to Compete in ITA All- Americans

Junior Amanda Fish (Scituate, Mass.) and sophomore Taka Bertrand (Great Falls, Va.) are competing this week at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All- American Championship Tournament.

Bertrand started play today after winning the flight one title at the Furman Fall Classic last weekend. The sophomore ranked No. 41 in the preseason is the No. 11 seed in the qualifying rounds and won her first match over South Florida’s Neyssa Etienne 3-6, 6-3, 6- 4. She was scheduled to play against Indiana’s Dora Vastag this afternoon.

Fish, the No. 17 ranked player in the preseason poll, does not have a singles match until Thursday. The pair will play in the qualifying rounds of the double’s tournament as the No. 5 seed, also scheduled for later today. Check back for more updates throughout the week.
