Vanderbilt is offering fans a rare opportunity to own a piece of history and take part of Hawkins Field home with them.
On Monday, July 16 from 5-7 p.m. fans have the chance to purchase a portion of grass or dirt from Hawkins Field. Fans can own a piece of the field that saw Aaron Westlake belt a school record three home runs against Oregon State to help send the Commodores to the school’s first-ever College World Series in 2011, the infield dirt that Worth Scott raced around in 2003 after hitting a walk-off home run against Tennessee on the final day of the regular season to send Vandy to the Southeastern Conference Tournament for the first time in six years and the same field that David Price dominated on throughout 2007 on his way to being the top pick in the major league baseball draft. The famed field will begin the transformation to artificial turf later in the week.
Fans can start their own infield or outfield at their home for $25 with a 1-foot by 1-foot section of grass. The infield dirt will be sold for $10 per one-gallon bag. Fans will be expected to collect their own grass and dirt with shovels being provided. Receptacles for the grass and dirt will not be provided.
Hawkins Field has been home to 32 All-Americans, 28 Freshman All-Americans, 75 All-SEC players, two SEC Pitchers of the Year (David Price, 2007 & Grayson Garvin, 2011), two SEC Freshmen of the Year (Pedro Alvarez, 2006 & Tony Kemp, 2011) and one SEC Player of the Year (Hunter Bledsoe, 1999).
Fans can park in Lot 71 beyond the right field wall and enter the field through the right field gate. Cash and check will be the only methods of payment accepted at the field.
