Falk Named To USA Tennis Collegiate Team 7/9/2004 SKILLMAN, N.J. — Vanderbilt rising senior Audra Falk was one of 12 collegiate tennis players named to the 2004 USA Tennis Collegiate Team, announced Friday by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The USA Tennis Collegiate Team is an elite training program funded by the USTA for the top American collegiate tennis players. The program began in 1996 and is designed to provide players with valuable exposure to the USTA professional circuit in a team-oriented environment during the summer months. Joining Falk on the women’s team are Amanda Johnson of Duke, Raquel Kops-Jones of California, two-time defending NCAA women’s singles champion Amber Liu of Stanford, Jennifer Magley of Florida and Jessica Roland of Texas A&M. A&M’s Lester Cook, Florida’s Hamid Mirzadeh, Stanford’s Sam Warburg, Illinois’ Brian Wilson, Kentucky’s Jesse Witten and Ohio State’s Jeremy Wurtzman round out the men’s side. A product of Ohio’s Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, Falk finished the 2004 season ranked No. 9 nationally by the ITA after advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championship. She played first singles all season for the Commodores, who posted 26 wins en route to the NCAA Final Four. The women’s team will be coached by Paige Yaroshuk-Tews, women’s tennis coach at the University of Miami (Fla.), and the men will be coached by Ian Duvenhage of USA Tennis High Performance. Past USA Tennis Collegiate Team members include current professionals James Blake, Bob and Mike Bryan, Bea Bielik, Ansley Cargill, Amer Delic, Laura Granville, Marissa Irvin, Alex Kim, Jeff Morrison and Brian Vahaly. |
