Melania Fullerton lifts Vanderbilt to its first-ever Elite Eight appearance

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Melania Fullerton registered the game-winner in the second half to send top-seeded Vanderbilt to the NCAA Elite Eight for the first time in program history after taking down LSU 1-0 at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex on Monday afternoon.

With the win, Vanderbilt improves to 18-3-2, marking the program’s most victories in a season since 1994.

Fullerton, a junior from Dallas, Texas, delivered the game-winner in the 65th minute, finishing a cross from Grace Freeman and Courtney Jones to break the drought.

The Commodores outshot LSU 18–11 and generated 13 corner kicks while holding 57 percent possession. Vanderbilt’s attack forced Tigers goalkeeper Audur Scheving into six saves, including five in the opening half.

LSU had a chance to equalize in the 73rd minute after drawing a penalty, but senior goalkeeper Sara Wojdelko denied Ida Hermannsdóttir’s attempt with a diving stop to her right. The save secured Wojdelko’s 11th shutout of the season, tied for the third-most in program history, and her 22nd career clean sheet, also third-most all-time at Vanderbilt.

The Commodores will host second-seeded TCU in the Elite Eight. Kick off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+. Tickets will go on sale for the Elite Eight matchup tomorrow.
