NASHVILLE, Tenn. — For the second consecutive match to open the 2021 season, Vanderbilt defeated a Nashville rival by a 6-1 margin at the Currey Tennis Center with a triumph over Lipscomb to give head coach Ian Duvenhage his 200th victory as head coach of the Commodores.
The Commodores took the doubles point with a clean sweep of the Bisons. Max Freeman and George Harwell took the No. 1 doubles duel with a 6-3 decision. Pairs at Nos. 2 and 3 – Marcus Ferreira and Macsen Sisam and Jeremie Casabon and Adam Sraberg, respectively – took identical 6-4 scorelines to clinch the point.
With today’s victory, Coach Duvenhage has now won 2⃣0⃣0⃣ matches as our head coach.

In singles play, Vanderbilt took five of six to secure the victory. Vanderbilt earned straight-set wins at No. 1 by Harwell (7-6, 6-1), No. 4 by Sisam (7-5, 6-1), No. 5 by Casabon (6-3, 6-1) and No. 6 by Joubert Klopper (7-5, 6-4). Ferreira rounded out the triumph by closing out a three-set victory at No. 2, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
Vanderbilt will return to action at 10:30 a.m. Sunday welcoming Rice to the Currey Tennis Center.
