TULSA, Okla. – Senior Christina Rosca and Georgia Drummy secured their spots in the doubles quarterfinals and advanced to the singles Round of 16 in the ITA All-Americans on Thursday at the Case Tennis Center at LaFortune Park.
Competing in the first round of doubles, Rosca and Drummy faced Virgina Tech’s Natalie Novotna and Rita Pinto. The Commodore pair held the duo to three games, marking their spot in the Round of 16, 8-3.
In the second round, Rosca and Drummy battled against the nation’s top doubles pair, Anna Rogers and Alana Smith. Upsetting the pair, 8-6, Rosca and Drummy advanced to the ITA All-Americans quarterfinals.
“In doubles, Georgia and Christina had a strong first round win followed by beating the top ranked team in the country from NC State in a very high-level doubles match. I am really pleased with the tough way they competed and executed under pressure,” said Macdonald.
In singles, senior Christina Rosca took the court in the Round of 32 against Ohio State’s Shiori Fukuda. Taking down Fukuda in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, Rosca marked her spot in the Round of 16.
Joining Rosca in the Round of 16, Drummy bested Michigan’s Giulia Pairone. Drummy took down Pairone 6-2 in the first set but fell short in the second set, 6-7 to force a third set. In the final set, Drummy outlasted Pairone, 7-5 to advance.
“Georgia and Christina showed tremendous composure dealing with challenging conditions today. In singles both of our players showed great poise and embraced the adversity with a lot of grit,” said head coach Geoff Macdonald.
