DR. BRANT LIPSCOMB

Team Medical Consultant

1948-1990

Dr. Brant Lipscomb was a two-sport star at Vanderbilt prior to World War II but it was his pioneering work and leadership in the field of sports medicine that paved his way into the school’s Hall of Fame. “Pinky” Lipscomb was widely regarded as one of the nation’s best orthopedic surgeons of his era with patients coming from all corners of the United States to seek his counsel and gifted surgeon’s touch.

Signed with the Chicago Cubs and played on their Zanesville farm club team.
Returned to Nashville in 1947 and was the team’s chief medical consultant a role he kept for five decade before he passed away. (1948-1990)
One of first surgeons in USA to reconstruct ACLs and return athletes to their sports after those injuries had previously been career-ending.
Lipscomb Sports Therapy Clinic began in 1990 with impact throughout the South
He was also a Clinical Professor of Orthopedics, training and mentoring dozens of Vanderbilt residents in Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. He started the Sports Medicine service of the VU Orthopedic Department.
A member of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, inducted in 1986
