Doubleheader Sweep for Dores

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team successfully completed its first home doubleheader of the season with wins over Middle Tennessee and Bellarmine on Friday.

The Dores steadily dismantled the Blue Raiders 6-1 for their first match victory of the day. With the win, Vanderbilt moves to 8-0 all-time over Middle Tennessee. The Blue Raiders’ point, won at No. 6 singles, is the first time scoring in a match against the Commodores since 2012 and just the fourth total time generating a point in the series.

Vanderbilt continued the momentum in the second match against Bellarmine. Sophomore Valeria Ray sparked the Dores in singles, notching her eighth straight victory while moving to a 17-4 overall record this season. Ray is 10-1 in her last 11 singles matches. No. 26 ranked junior Bridget Stammel and freshman Sophia Webster each picked up their third consecutive win, with Stammel collecting her first triumph at No. 1 singles this season.
