NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team capped a strong performance at the June Stewart Invitational on Sunday.
“All-in-all, thought it was a really solid weekend for us,” Vanderbilt head coach Aleke Tsoubanos said. “We got a lot of really nice results, and I thought we competed really well as a group. I was very pleased with how we supported each other off the court and showed some really good spirit. We’ll take a few days to recover and rejuvenate before we get ready for ITA Regionals in Knoxville. We plan on everyone competing there. I’m excited to see if we can build on the momentum we created this weekend. I also want to thank the Vanderbilt staff for all their support this weekend to run a really smooth event.”
In their first session of the day, the Commodores went 3-0 in doubles matches versus Purdue.
Celia-Belle Mohr and Marcella Cruz secured a 6-2 win over Kennedy Gibbs and Liz Normal. In the other two doubles matches, the pairings of Bridget Stammel/ Sonya Macavei and Holly Staff/Dasha Kourkina won by identical 7-5 scores.
