NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Thomas F. Roush, M.D., and Family Vanderbilt Men’s Golf Head Coach Scott Limbaugh announced the addition of Carlos Astiazaran, who transfers to the Commodores after a two-year stint at Pacific.
Astiazaran comes to Vandy after a record-setting sophomore campaign at Pacific. He was named the 2024-25 West Coast Conference Co-Player of the Year, posting a scoring average of 69.51 to set Pacific’s record for lowest scoring average in a single season. Astiazaran’s 69.51 mark was also the lowest scoring average among qualified WCC golfers this past season. He ranked as an individual No. 81 nationally, according to SCOREBOARD, and 267th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
“We are thrilled to have Carlos join our program,” said Limbaugh. “He is a leader and proven winner who fits our culture really well. He’s excited to help us pursue championships and do it with class, integrity and a burning desire to be great. Carlos and our incoming freshmen are going to help us have the type of depth it takes to compete at the highest of levels.”
The Tucson, Arizona, native collected a pair of victories at Pacific, both coming during the 2024-25 season. He posted his first collegiate victory at the Leadership and Golf Collegiate Championship with a score of 8-under 208. He again claimed individual medalist honors at the Nick Watney Invitational with a three-round total of 10-under 203.
Astiazaran holds a collegiate 54-hole low score of 200 (-13), which was set at the 2024 Alister Mackenzie Invitational. His three-round low vs. par of 15-under 201 came at the 2025 Amer Ari Invitational.
Recently, Astiazaran won the 97th Mexican National Amateur Championship at Guadalajara Country Club. The newest Commodore carded 11-under 277 with round scores of 70-67-72-68 to win the tournament by three strokes.
Astiazaran becomes the fourth member of Vanderbilt’s nationally top-ranked 2025-26 signing class. He joins Will Hartman, Michael Riebe and Jon Ed Steed as the newest batch of Commodores coming to the Music City this fall.
